The exchange period will consists of a family stay and for most of the students also a camp. The Finnish YE camps have places for about 120 campers. The duration of the YE, including the camp, is about 3 weeks for European youths and about 5 weeks for non-Europeans. The family stay is mainly before the camp but can also be partially after the camp. Finnish Lions also offer only family hosting in districts where there is no camp.

The program is principally carried out on a reciprocal basis. The number of students to be sent to each destination shall be mutually agreed with the YCED Tuula Rantaeskola or with the Finnish District YCEC in question by the end of November 2011.
